All our shelters are set modular sizes to allow for a variety of configurations. We produce them to a high standard at our yard and deliver them complete with plants, habitat and appropriate use built in.

Sizes are modular and can be positioned end to end, back to back or with fronts facing each other and ideally a 2m gap.

Optional extras include:

  • Larch cladding

  • Twin mesh infil panels

  • Compound layout with gates

  • Enclosed sliding doors.


All come planted, with locking bars, habitat and ready to set in place right off of the lorry.

  • If you are looking to attain the wildlife and social value of Green Roof Shelters, and achieve higher BREEAM or BNG credits, these are the key points to specify:
    (Green Roof Shelters contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain Units and Urban Greening Factor (UGF score 0.7) - as opposed to lightweight sedum roofs that have little comparable biodiversity value and UGF 0.3)

  • Presuming BREEAM or BNG credits are relevant to the project, Green Roof Shelters Ltd are the only cycle shelters that meet many of the metric targets for planning & BREEAM or BNG requirements.

  • Green Roof Shelter spec*. 

  • Minimum 150-200mm deep, low nutrient, growing roof substrate (225kg/m2 when saturated) 

  • Planted with 46+ nectar-rich native plants (with optional/additional non-natives to extend the nectar

  • season for early and late pollinators - bees, butterflies, moths and other invertebrates). 

  • Minimum 1.6m2 Wildlife habitat panels comprising drilled UK chestnut rounds (solitary bee nesting), bamboo (solitary bee nesting), sheeps’ wool (bird nesting material), bird nesting boxes for blue tits or great tits, or social nesting boxes for house sparrows, and 1m2+ rubble gabions as invertebrate refuge. Roofs have additional invertebrate habitat consisting of log piles and sand mounds.

  • * to distinguish from lightweight sedum roofs and / or to meet BREEAM & BNG metrics for planning.

  • Green Roof Shelters are a nature-based solution, with wildlife habitat and plant species-diversity at their heart.
