With external wildlife habitat panels, Green Roofed Bin Shelters create tidy collection points for refuse or recycled materials, and new opportunities for enhancing local bio-diversity.
Shelters are free standing and accommodate either wheelie bins or 1100 litre Euro bins. Shelters are safe and simple to maintain. -
Our shelter roofs are planted with locally appropriate plant species to enhance biodiversity, while roof and wall-mounted wildlife habitat gives space for invertebrate forage, refuge, nesting and overwintering.
(Our green roofs are not a shallow substrate topped with sedum. Although these are classed as a ‘green roof’, they offer very limited biodiversity value.) -
We have a mix of 46+ species of drought tolerant plants that we use on our roofs - typically a mix of native wild flowers and some non-native climate-change species, to produce a mosaic of flora with an extended nectar season.

-
All-native mixes can be specified, as well as the soil type (substrate) and plant species determined by the locality (eg. in discussion with local Wildlife Trusts).
-
As well as 20+ years experience of planting green roofs, we have ongoing planting trials for roofs, at our base in Essex.
-
Well known for our habitat panels, these are always included to add further wildlife value and biodiversity awareness to users. Infill materials for these panels, (man-made & natural) can be for nesting materials, invertebrate refuge, forage & overwintering. Bird nesting boxes are always included.
-
Shelters can be open, mesh-enclosed, or clad in UK grown larch. Enclosed shelters with doors have digital lock access.

-
Shelters are delivered planted and complete, and are simply craned off the delivery lorry into position, and are ready for use.

17 green roofed freestanding bin stores for housing in Newport, South Wales. Each shelter holds six 240 litre residents' wheelie bins, creating tidy collection points for refuse or recycled materials, while adding the appeal of a biodiverse green roof and attractive invertebrate habitat.
-
Wetland roofs, with bog plants, were installed on 8 roofs (Newport Wetlands Reserve is nearby). Each flank wall is composed of wildlife habitat panels, utilising recycled materials - crushed clay brick, logs from thinning - drilled with 6 nesting holes sizes for a broad variety of solitary bees (leaf cutters, mason, carder, masked), and bird-nesting boxes.
-
Planting bin shelter roofs. Local Biodiversity Action Plan Species can be encouraged or planted for. Nesting opportunities for birds and varied solitary bee species (with nectar rich food plants on the roof).
-
Safe and simple to maintain, and unlike a brick or concrete bin store, easily relocatable should the need arise.
